Even if they won the lawsuit against Samsung, Apple’s patent war continues, but this time their target is not who you would expect, not even a company from the IT area. Apple is now suing Volkswagen Group in Germany for infringement on their Magic Mouse design patents after the build or the new Porsche pavilion from Wolfsburg!

Even more interesting, Apple is not requesting any money from Volkswagen Group, but what they want is a big apple to be drawn on the building and the official name to be changed to iPorche pavilion.

As visible in the picture, the similarities between Apple’s product and the new Porsche pavilion are obvious (ignoring the scale, or course), but one would think it would not be an issue for Tim Cook, Apple CEO : “People need to know, we cannot finish the ‘painting’ and have someone else put their name on it, we just can’t have that. We want people to invent their own stuff and what Volkswagen Group did with their so called ‘new’ Porsche pavilion, is just take one or our Magic Mouse, increase the size and voila – they had a building“.

On the other hand, Porsche’s architectural firm Henn Architekten (chief architect Gunter Henn ) declares : “Porsche pavilion architecture is inspired by the car itself. The spatial envelope based on a monocoque design forms the self-supporting structural system. A stainless steel surface, combined with dynamically elegant lines, clearly alludes to Porsche automobile styling. Clearly, Tim Cook is just jealous that our building is larger then his mouse, and it’s also more durable!

Whether this will become the next big patent infringement lawsuit or if Apple will just buy Volkswagen Group, thus entering in a whole new area, we cannot say. But we assure you DesignRulz.com will keep a close eye on this situation that shatters  the design and architecture world.
