Amazon has finally lifted the lid on its second-annual Prime Day sale, which it’s touting as the “biggest Amazon event ever.”
Amazon Prime Day 2016: when is it and what should you expect?
On July 12, Amazon will kick off its second annual sales event, basically a Cyber-Monday-in-July that promises extra savings over and above the company’s usual discount prices.
It promised to deliver more bargains than Black Friday, and while some of the deals were less attractive than others there were still lots of tech deals and bargains to be found.
Sure it began as a single day last year, but this year Amazon is offering up a full week of killer bargains that will lead up to the crazy main even on Tuesday, July 12.
Can anybody take part in Prime Day?
Yes… and no. Prime Day is exclusively for Prime subscribers. You’ll need a Prime subscription to enjoy any of these deals. If you don’t already have a Prime subscription, you can sign up for a free 30-day Amazon Prime trial right now and enjoy all the huge Prime Day deals coming this week.
Amazon Prime is, of course, the subscription service that affords unlimited two-day shipping, movie and music streaming and various other perks. It costs $99 per year. In order to take advantage of Prime Day deals, you must be a Prime subscriber. That’s the bad news; the good news is that if you’ve never tried the service before, you can get a free 30-day trial — and that trial membership qualifies you for Prime Day savings.
You can get started by signing up for the Amazon Prime trial if you’re not already a member and cancel anytime!
Are there any special deals for students?
There are. If you’re a college student, you can get a six-month free trial of Amazon Prime, after which you can snag a membership for just $49 — 50 percent off the regular annual price.
Which countries will Prime Day be happening in?
Prime Day is running in every country where Amazon operates.
Why you should care about Prime Day?
Two words: TVs and toys. Those are the big categories this year (for US customers, at least), with Amazon promising twice as much TV inventory as “Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined,” and toy deals promised “nearly all day.” More than 30 percent of Prime Day Lightning Deals worldwide will be from sellers on Amazon. During Prime Day 2016 in the U.S., customers will find twice as many deals from sellers and small businesses.
What Amazon Prime Day deals can I expect?
Amazon says it’ll heavily discount more than 100,000 things on Prime Day, and there will be other promotions during the run-up to 12 July. For example, Prime Music is running a promotion to win “unforgettable experiences” with artists including Blink 182, Flo Rida, The Lumineers and others.
