Designed by Biro Gasperic, this project is located in Trata near Velesovo, Slovenia. This house was designed to be a perfect host to an experienced couple and their list of expectations and personal preferences. With kids all grown up the parents namely transformed back into a pair. Kids will be back of course, but now only as visitors. When the time has come for their kids to leave the home, the active, sporty couple in their fifties, decided to sell their dear, but oversized house and move. After a long search, they were able to find a beautiful spot in the lap of the mountains and acquire a plot of land at the edge of the village on a gentle slope bellow the local church. All three levels continue the flow of program through a series of small staircases, providing views from one activity to another.
The porch opens into a clear, airy interior that gathers all of the sun’s rays from the south and transfers them deeper into the structure of continuous spaces. They set the goal for their new house to be small, but comfortable. Being manageable by two seniors but able to host the kids and their family when pay them occasional prolonged visit. They wanted it to be sustainable in wider sense of the word and energy efficient. The spaces became a special mix of storage, washroom, bathroom and bedroom free flux spaces that morph according to the way of use. Thus, the architecture represents an interpretation of inhabitants’ ways of being with the full respect to the inclining location. Pleasant to live in and supportive to their active lifestyle. And smart!
