Donald Architecture completed the design of Hocker Farm, a charming stone cottage within The Peak District National Park in Longnor, Buxton, United Kingdom. According to the architects, the development had to be in-keeping with the local context, which entirely formed the external appearance of the extension: “Constrained in size by the original garage footprint, the challenge was creating the extra rooms within a relatively small volume of space. A space-saving stair and an open plan approach to master en-suite, in part, enabled the brief to be met.” Glass and stone define the exterior of the residence, which showcases an original appearance. The attic room is particularly interesting with its inclined walls and exposed wooden beams.
A dose of minimalism defines the overall design scheme, spiced here and there by bold colors: “The internal spaces, free from planning constraints, were designed to be light, clean and contemporary and to contrast from the cozy spaces of the original cottage. A glass-to-glass ridge roof light serves to flood light to en-suite, stair and hall under.” What are your thoughts on this contemporary reinterpretation on a traditional chalet?
