When renovating an old house, wide spaces are always a problem. In the sense that they usually lack. Built almost a century ago in the historic centre of Haarlem, in the western Netherlands, the house below needed a complete restoration to gain larger areas. The work was completed by Kempe studio and it involved a rigorous planning of the resources, as well as a lot of smart solutions that helped use space efficiently. As a result, the old house got a completely new look with bright modern interiors and a lovely backyard, which restricted architects work greatly on design. As you can easily notice from the pictures below, smart solutions were necessary outdoor too. Entering the terrace through a transparent glass door, the inhabitants experience a fresh atmosphere with greenery and flowers. The house features two floors and an attic. The first level consists of one open space connected with the exterior through a transparent glass wall. The residents can step to the backyard directly from the living room. Upstairs, they have the bedroom with bathroom.
