Lines of Light is a family house, a creative residential project completed by JHYLA Architects in Singapore. This family house is a 2 storey corner terrace house with an attic. At the front, an outdoor terrace with a high volume fronts the main garden. According to the architect’s description: “This terrace sits at a corner site and thus the full side of the house fronts the side street. To preserve the privacy but still allowing light and ventilation, a slatted timber screen covers the entire side elevation. ” In order to accommodate a young family, the design had to include alterations and additions that increased the living area, as well as added a second story serving as private spaces.
The space continues into the double volume living room with a feature book shelf that extends two stories. The 1st storey has an open plan and large glass sliding doors open up to the lush side garden. One enters the house into the triple volume space with the cantilevered stairs on both sides of the walls. Every corner seems to reveal something connected to the personality of the owners, which makes this place a real home. Extensive use of wood makes the interiors comfortable, inviting and child-friendly. Enjoy the virtual tour of this modern family house and let us know what you think!
