Located in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pedro House was designed by VDV ARQ. The home was completed in 2013 and measures 3,444 square feet. Pedro House was created for 3 generations of a single household – a father, his daughter and his two grandchildren and it is a medium scale family housing that responds to the requirements of an active social life, flexible spaces and visual amplitude, emphasizing the privacy. “The brief was primarily based on two premises: open spaces with a powerful partnership to the outside, and an ability to accommodate various circumstances and a lot of guests, as the owners have a really active social life,” the architects. Pedro House is organized in two levels, under a rectangular pattern that develops around the joint of different courtyards, each of them with a particular character. In order to create a connection between the interior and exterior spaces of the Pedro House, the architects decided to implement a series of perforations that allow natural light and fresh air to flow seamlessly throughout each and every room. The wooden skin also gives insulation, particularly in summer, assisting to filter out heat and provide far better comfort. The ground floor is made up of two rectangular pavilions set around a pool and covered courtyard. Square voids in the courtyard’s roof accommodate increasing trees, in order to bring nature into the heart of the home. Outside, a beautiful swimming pool is a part of a large courtyard that actually separates the service spaces from the living room.
