Designed by Walker Workshop, the Oak Pass Guest House was constructed out of fire-resistant timber planks, sits among 100 live oak trees in a wooded area of Beverly Hills, California. Polished concrete completes the material palette, which manages to remain sleek and modern while being homely. The lower level consists of a rehabbed and enlarged barn and newly constructed living spaces. The upper floor is clad in wood and has bedrooms at opposite corners of the floating volume. The open barn section of the Oak Pass Guest House was a deliberate design decision for the architect and client. Music is a passion for the client, and this space is to be a place to enjoy performing and listening to music with friends and family. It features a piano at one end, there to accompany the violinist owner for personal enjoyment and entertaining. The walls and arched ceilings of the barn section provide a friendly acoustic space for calming reverberation.
