This hillside home features contemporary architecture on a lot with majestic Coast Live Oak trees. The landscape design reflects the needs of an environmentally conscious young family and emphasizes interior and exterior views. The plant palette is mostly drought-tolerant while custom LED lighting reduces energy and illuminates architectural features. A series of long clean lines and shifting planes integrates spaces along the sloped property. The planes are made up of a dramatic sky bridge, a long and narrow swimming pool with zero-edge jacuzzi, a deck with custom resin seating, a large stone terrace, dramatic topography, and soft plant palette. The result: artful spaces that reconnect the owners to the beauty of the outdoors.
The warmth and golden colors of the desert make it the perfect location to host a spa. EPTDESIGN helped JW Marriott renovate this landscape to become a welcoming and desert-appropriate oasis. What once was lawn, petunias and asphalt is now a garden of cacti and succulents around desert rock outcroppings and airy canopy trees. Chartreuse and gold plants and stone reflect the desert surroundings. A rock wash directs stormwater. The Spa is recreated to be sensitive to its surroundings while nurturing its guests.
This garden, surrounding a villa set atop a prominent knoll, typifies the grandest of his designs. Masterfully sited, the estate affords 360 degree views. The current owners embarked upon a major update of the home replete with restoration of the original structure and a desire to utilize the steep slope below the back of the house. Planted terraces now make the most of the lot, with a sparkling tiled pool at the lowest level. A formal motor court with a central fountain and inter-planted pavers replaced the original asphalt drive. The result is an elegant and functional landscape that draws the family and visitors through a series of garden rooms.
The grand new residence by architect Kevin Clark and interior designer Daniel Cuevas is a study in classical materials and form. A series of garden courtyards and outdoor rooms extend views and circulation from within the home for an open yet intimate landscape. Formal terraces provide places for intimate and large scale entertaining. Walls of manicured hedges screen and direct views and create quiet spaces steps from busy streets. Large specimen Cork Oaks, Ficus, and Pines give the new garden a sense of age and permanence. A timeless palette of limestone, basalt, and marble walls and paving provide an elegant backdrop for the owners’ art collection, as described in Veranda Magazine.
