A residence that incorporates a perforated cor-ten steel facade catches your attention immediately. Located in Venice, California, the project completed by Modal Design pays attention to how a deep connection with the exterior can influence the living space inside. Therefore, the floor to ceiling glass facades , the large pool and the lively garden nearby define its character. Uncanny and eclectic, the exterior features a weathering steel ‘skin’ that form a stable rust-like appearance after exposed to the weather for several years. The perforated pattern became a theme inside too, gilding the staircase which favours vertical access throughout the house. In a nutshell, Walnut Residence is a contemporary dwelling designed with an original concept and with a profound respect to nature. Modal Design studio is led by Daniel Monti, an architect that graduated at Harvard University with the belief that architecture has the capacity to increase the awareness of the viewer regarding the interaction with the built environment.
