Realized by First Lamp Architecture & Construction studio, Badger Mountain Villa represents a symbiosis between contemporary design and Japanese modes of living. According to this aesthetic, clean lines and large open spaces are used frequently in order to achieve communication and fluidity. As architects explain on their website, the project’s primary goal was to answer the growing family’s need for additional space. Meanwhile, the team made efforts to capture the sweeping views of the Columbia River and connect the house to the surrounding landscape. The result? The major spaces are aligned in a simple plan that is arranged perpendicular to the slope of the hillside, minimizing site impact and maximizing views to the north. The south-facing side of the home opens to an outdoor pool and observation area that offers views of the peak of Badger Mountain, located in the U.S. state of Washington.
