A peanut is a good metaphor for a protective shell that nurtures young life, so it makes sense that UID Architects chose to model the Tukusi Nursery School in Hiroshima after the shape of a peanut. The new structure features large curved walls with no sharp corners, and large windows that fill the learning space with natural light. The building is surrounded with a beautiful garden, where young children are encouraged to explore and connect with nature. Completed in 2012, the space is designed to encourage exploration and a connection with nature. Using organic shapes instead of rigid angles, the peanut-shaped nursery mirrors the rolling undulations and forms of the surrounding landscape.
