Dutch architectural firm VMX have designed the SODAE house in Amstelveen, The Netherlands. Completed in 2009, the architect who designed this 5,382 square foot, contemporary home on a private island, also lives in it with his family. The island measuring 1200m2. The clever interior layout allows for easy transitions between private and public social functioning and makes the most of its exceptional views. The living room and kitchen are arranged in a loft-like space on the first floor. The more intimate areas (bedrooms and bathrooms) are situated on the ground floor, orientated towards the garden on the backside. The basement contains an additional programme such as a fitness room and a home cinema. The house forms an object in the landscape; the island acts as the plinth.
