Apple Bay house has been designed by Wellington-based designers Parsonson Architects. The contemporary property was finished in 2006 and is located in Apple Bay, Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand. The owners of this beautiful “platform in the bush” wanted to create a building that slotted lightly into the lush surrounding forest, blurring the boundaries between inside and out.The architect designed the structure to step down the slope of the hill in the form of two offset pavilions, with the upper storey for the living areas and downstairs for sleeping. The two wings are connected by a linkway.
According to the architects the contemporary Marlborough home is used as a holiday house, it sits on a west facing hillside in a bush clad bay in the Marlborough Sounds. “The owners wanted a holiday house that could cater for large numbers of family and friends and also feel comfortable with one or two people. They are a family of thespians and wanted a raised library area which doubled as a performance area for family shows. The house can be approached from above by road and below by water and they wanted the house to connect these two approaches” said Gerald.
