A project that could change the world !
There are 2.5 billion people around the globe that don’t have their own house. Buying one would be out of the question for them but technology has reached a point where it can help create a cheap, affordable house. The latest craze in engineering right now is “frugal innovation”—the art of radically reducing the cost of products while also delivering first-class value is very high now. This made possible the creation of a $400 electrocardiogram machine ( from General Electric ), a $24 purifier that can provide a family with pure water for a year ( Tata Chemicals ) or cheap footbridges that are transforming life in rural India ( creation of Girish Bharadwa). This means that the creation of a $300 house is just a matter of time !
Although the living area is small, having just one room, this house does include all the necesary elements : furniture, mosquito nests, a tablet PC, water filter, cooking device. More then that, the $300 house even has solar panels on it’s roof. The companies that are currently researching this are IDEO, General Electric, TATA, Siemens, Habitat-for-Humanity ( an NGO ) , Partners In Health, Solar Electric Light Fund, Clinton Global Initiative, Gates Foundation ?i Grameen.
If you too want to help bring this project to live, the 300house website is the online portal where you can join the community.
