Colombian architect Oscar Mesa has designed this contemporary family residence located in Medellin, Colombia. The house was placed on one of the hills that Surround Medellin and thus it benefits from panoramic views and wonderful landscape every way you look.
This single family residence was designed for a couple and their three children. As most modern buildings, this house features a very functional design. It’s simple, with a minimalist façade and neutral colors and, of course, it has large, floor-to-ceiling glass windows. This way the wonderful views can be admired from all the rooms. At the time of excavation, some big stones were found. These were kept in the original site and became the landscape’s dominant issue. Hence, the project’s name meaning among the rocks.
This contemporary family residence is divided into two volumes. One is the main volume, a two-story structure with glass walls while the other is smaller and only has one level. The two volumes are separated by a lap pool. The interior of both volumes is simple modern and chic. However, in this case the exterior is just as interesting. During the excavation, a series of big stones were found in the ground. These stones were preserved on the site and then used. They have become the dominant element of the landscape. Their color is quite beautiful, especially in combination with the green grass and the residence’s neutral and natural color tones.
