Near Lake Balaton in Hungary, the Summer House on Pillars by Munkacsoport.net embraces its environment, and employs tall pillars to blend the residence into the surrounding forest. The summer house has a large panoramic windows, while its terrace and pillared volume stretch into the zone of the surrounding fir trees. Proportioned after the tree-trunks, the pillars lift the building’s frontal volume up to the tree’s crown range, hence integrating the house into its natural environment. The structural elements form an outdoor terrace at ground level, while their placement was determined by the existing vegetation. affected by the inherent building regulations for pitched roofs along the northern half of the lake, the site’s position on the border of the southern area enabled the approval of its flat roof plane.
The building’s footprint is also dictated by the trees. The architecture of summer house can be read as a tribute to Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye, which was the embodiment of the architect’s Modernist manifesto. Interior, rectilinear columns carry the weight of the summer house, and act as organizational points in plan.
