Spotted on www.plataformaarquitectura.cl, Loft Lo Curro was realized by Matías Silva Aldunate & Architects in 2011. They were asked to realize a studio-workshop to house the arts and entertainment of a Greek philanthropist. Situated in Santiago, Chile the building allows disconnection and isolation from the urban environment. The land on which it is located is a hill with large trees and abundant vegetation which offer spectacular views over the city. The first volume includes: workshop room, kitchen-dining room, bedroom and bathroom, sauna. The internal organization is based on a 10 × 10 floor concrete cubes creating a large space consists of two levels that inhabit the slope and interact with each other through integrated systems. The second volume includes: bar, pool, terrace.
The materials used striated concrete blocks and metal structures of rusted steel.
These materials simultaneously become supports for climbing plants that will eventually convert large concrete walls in plant walls.
The site, long and with gentle slope, is covered with a forest of eucalyptus trees planted 30 years ago and it is crossed by an irrigation canal. It faces north and has a front view of the southern slope of the hill with vegetation, and a side view of the area east towards the city.
