We all know Swiss are strict when it comes to remodeling ideas for historical buildings. This was exactly the case with Rizza House below, spotted on archdaily.com and located in the historic core of Volcano, a village of 3000 inhabitants in the canton of Ticino. The area is known for its old architectural elements, with a portion of settlements dating back to the seventeenth century. Protected by renovating rules, the existing opening and the structure of the roof could not be changed. As a result, the architects put their creativity in turning the interior space into a lovely contemporary crib. The first step when started remodeling the house was to completely empty the interior, partly because of the precarious condition of the walls and floors. Then, it was totally rebuilt. Making space look wider is one of the most important tips in the remodeling ideas manual. This happens because historical buildings are usually narrow, dark and lack functionality. As you can easily notice, the double height space in the living area increase the perception of verticality and size of the spaces. The division of the space was made as follows: toilet and equipment room at the entrance, kitchen and living on the first floor, a small room on the second floor, while the top hosts the master bedroom with bathroom.
