Countless designers have tackled the problem of lighting, trying to obtain satisfying light quality and quantity for objects that are decorative as well as functional, with pleasing forms, easy to put together, easy to purchase, materials that neither deteriorate nor yellow with age, objects that offer themselves as magical light sculptures.
Paper Light
This lamp designed by Tomoyo Kawata was awarded at “The Essence of Light” Competition organized by Krabbesholm in cooperation with Louis Poulsen Lighting. The contestants had to make a lamp of Tyvek, a polyethylene material that filters the light in approximately the same way as opal glass and plastic.

Toilet Paper Chandelier
Kristen Davis, a decorative painter didn’t like the old chandelier in her dining room. She thought it wasn’t in tune with her non conventional style. Even if the traditional source of light looked quite elegant and sophisticated, she preferred a light installation from toilet paper.

We realise that planning for our future requires a strong commitment to the environment. Our philosophy towards recycling made us choose wasted books to create an attractive chandelier. Every page is folded in half, producing a circular arrangement which hangs around a ceiling light.

The light surround mimics their growth whilst keeping a sensitivity to the light, using paper to manipulate the light source enabling the opportunity to explore the ranging tonal qualities.
