Nedelkovich House, one of the heritage buildings in central Timisoara, Romania, has recently become the headquarters for Presslabs, a young company offering WordPress hosting services that is dedicated to publishers. The New Presslabs Office was designed by Stefania Tiplea and Consuela Gudiu. Together they transform this common, strictly functional area into a dynamic IT office that would reflect the identity of the team. The creative process was sparked during the designer’s first visit at the WordPress hosting company. She was happy to meet a cheerful and connected team, who wore house slippers, played with giant colored balls during meetings and even cooked together at work. The New Presslabs Office has a great attic loft, which actually is their “home away from home”, so coziness was a major factor to consider in the design scheme.
The New Presslabs Office was designed in a modern style. The mezzanine also hosts a hidden bedroom and storage space. Creative decorations follow the two major lines identified by the designer. LEGO lamps and units are spread around the open office. An ingenious TETRIS wall made from 28 strips of cloth and 150 colorful TETRIS tiles separate the chillout zone from the improvised bedroom and storage area. The small pillows adorning the place are all printed with characters chosen by the employees, from Fredo and Pidjin to PacMan and the Minions. The Sailing Area was individualized through string patterns tied to the exposed beams, as well as other thematic style elements: a steering wheel, an anchor, toy ships and miniature sailors. A colorful highlight of the design is The History Wall. With the team’s passions at the core of the design, this playful IT office in Timisoara is now an inviting working space for the employees, as well as an uplifting refuge for clients, interns and collaborators.
