Retro design is cool nowadays. With some Polka dots, metal tables and wooden armchairs, the job is almost done. Designed by Suite Architects in 2014, the house below is located in São Paulo, Brazil. Tall and luminous, the abode makes some reference to the retro era, yet experiencing a clean, fresh and airy contemporary atmosphere. The living room, one of the most important areas from the house, is a large open space that screams ‘Have a seat!’ Two comfy sofas full of decorative pillows, three vintage armchairs with wooden structures and one lounge chair everybody would fight for create the main configuration. A deep blue carpet in the centre unifies the corners visually, while reflecting an invisible sky.

First tip when picking retro design for your home: make sure you have enough vintage pieces of furniture that evoke the spirit of that era! Combine them carefully not to obtain a kitschy interior, and let colours form independent focal points.

I would have never said that two industrial boards painted in blue and green, saying ‘sodium aluminium’ and ‘nickel cobalt’ would go near a picture of a jungle, but retro design accepts it.

Two funky orange armchairs and an Oriental like coffee table on the terrace. A glass parapet allows spectacular views of the landscape outside.

Missing the forest? A pile of wood in the living room solves the problem, while adding a natural look to the environment.

There pendant lamps mark the working space: a wide black desk near the window.

Don’t forget about plants! A transparent glass vase with flowers changes the atmosphere immediately.
