Malcolm Davis Architecture designed this stunning wooden residence – a single family house and it’s guest house. The materials used create a naturalistic atmosphere, which, combined with an open concept design and floor-to-ceiling windows, channels a breezy and carefree attitude. The Eastern façade lends a sense of privacy and protection from the highway, with a smaller entrance, high windows, and thickened wall. Connecting the two façades, an enclosed central porch serves as a dual entrance and favorite gathering space. The dark wood of the bookshelves nicely complements the lighter wood of the walls, proving that different materials can be combined to create a cohesive and fluid design. The exposed framing of the thickened wall creates a floor to ceiling feature for books in the living room. With its pizza oven and easy indoor/outdoor connections, the porch becomes an outdoor kitchen, an extension of the main living space, and the heart of the house.
