Realized by C.T. Architects, the apartment we present you today was designed for an accident victim that needed a wheelchair friendly living space. Even if many of the design solutions were inspired by necessity, the apartment does not look like a dwelling for a physically challenged person. As you can easily notice from the pictures below, there are several tips that make life a bit easier for someone who is less mobile. First of all, a no-step entry. The architect changed the main entrance of the building block and created a ramp to the client’s front door and a new communal entrance for the upstairs neighbours. Secondly, wide doorways and halls are required. Living room and dining area are near the main entrance, while the central corridor was transformed at a comfortable width for wheelchair passage with an efficient kitchen on one side and the bathroom on the other side. Thirdly, reachable and easy-to-use controls and switches will make the house more accessible. So, consider the height of many everyday items like light switches and electrical outlets when it comes to build.
