This 5,560 square foot home marries mid-century lines with a contemporary point of view. Designed by StudioMET, the Holly House is located in Houston, Texas, USA. It takes the mid-century lines and combines them with a contemporary point of view allowing you a great mix for a younger generation. The Holly house shows a restrained façade that opens into a double height living space with clerestory windows, a music room and open kitchen/dining area. Once you are in the door you will find a wooden staircase to the second floor, floating in air. Continue on and you are greeted to a high ceilinged living room that is filled with natural light.
To complement the interior spaces, the covered terrace extends the living space outdoors to include a pool, basketball court, summer kitchen and bathroom. The master suite is tucked into the back of the lot for solitude and privacy, while the upstairs includes 3 bedrooms, an art studio and a media room with a balcony overlooking the street.
The pool itself is surrounded in black and white tile with a great view from inside the home. The deck also contains a sitting area to enjoy the great outdoors with, or when it gets too hot you can take the conversation back inside and enjoy the view with the large wall-like windows.
The elevations express volumes of brick and stucco while cement board is coupled with ipe siding and soffits to finish off the shell of this house. Featured on the AIA Houston Home Tour 2014 and in the Houston Chronicle.
